“A woman arrives back home, her husband greets her with overflowing enthusiasm. He’s eager to share an extraordinary event from earlier that day – he starts to tell her, but gradually, a distance forms at the dinner table.
This short film questions our modern reliance on images and videos to share experiences and reminds us of the powerful act of storytelling itself – raw, emotional, and immediate.”
Thank you very much to my amating cast and crew who made this all come to life.
“The concept for this short film was inspired by my personal experiences. I’ve often found myself in situations like “Donna’s.” A few years ago, I started interrupting my friends when they were about to show me a video or photo and instead asked them to tell me the actual story behind that moment.
I realized while images and videos are incredibly effective at helping us recall our own emotions, they often fall short when it comes to truly sharing those feelings with others. Compared to the raw, immediate connection of actual storytelling, they feel incomplete.
Ultimately, as the narrator, you have the power to shape how your experience is interpreted by the listener, creating a deeper connection and shared understanding. This is because we, as humans, are natural storytellers. When we recount our experiences, we relive the emotions we felt, and the beauty of human connection is that the listener can mirror and truly feel those emotions far more vividly than through a photo or video.
In our increasingly visual world, I want to nudge viewers to consider that there’s “Another Way” to share experiences—one that goes beyond just showing.”
